Our Founder

Rodney T. Pelt, Sr. is the Founder and CEO of Mind Changers Inc., a not for profit organization in Tuscaloosa, AL. Mind Changers focuses on high level mentoring and community outreach. Rodney also is a decorated combat veteran, serving 16 years in the US ARMY and a tour in IRAQ. After retiring and returning home, Rodney saw the need for effective mentoring in the community where he grew up. He partnered with other organizations and started mentoring at one of the local schools. This resulted in the birth of Mind Changers.
Under Rodney’s direction, Mind Changers currently has mentoring initiatives in 10 of the local schools, an after school mentoring program at the Benjamin Barnes YMCA and an after school enrichment program held weekly at the McDonald Hughes Center in Tuscaloosa.
Rodney is a member of various community organizations including Rose of Sharon Consistory #208 where he is a 33rd degree Mason and a member of AL Muquit Shrine Temple #221. He is currently serving as the President of the 100 Black Men of West Alabama and is also a member of the Leadership Tuscaloosa class of 2016-17. Additionally, he is a deacon and member of Cornerstone Full Gospel Baptist Church in Tuscaloosa.
Rodney is married to Marshae Madison of Camden, AL. They are the parents of five sons, one daughter-in law and one grandson, Dairion and one granddaughter, Trintee.

“We don’t come here to change your environment. We come here to change your mindset,” Pelt said. “And when you change your mindset, you can change your environment.” Pelt said that when he was growing up, he dreamed of being the ultimate soldier. When he joined the Army, he aspired to become a Green Beret and eventually a general. But when he was being screened for a security clearance, he failed the test because military screeners found out about an illegal choice he made when he was 19. Without the security clearance he couldn’t achieve his goals. “I still had a stellar military career, but that one choice killed my dreams,” he said. “God forgives, but the law doesn’t. Real talk.”
